March 2024 Business Conditions Survey
Members and Non-members are invited to complete the 3rd annual survey of local business conditions.
Your answers to this survey will be used to gauge activity trends within the local community and to guide the Chamber in the provision of services to members. The overall results may be included in a report to members and your specific answers will not be identifiable.
Your personal details are secure and individual survey results will not be disclosed to any other party.
The survey shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete but if you need to come back later, there is a “Save and Continue Later” link at the bottom of the form which allows you to save your partially completed form and return to it later.
Here are the results of the 2023 Business Survey. The prior year results are below.
The 2023 results are in stark contrast to 2022. We had a 190% increase in survey participants this year and there a number of notable trends:
- Covid is no longer seen as a threat to business
- Although there is a reasonable expected uptick in sales this is not reflected in bottom line expectations with rising costs eroding any increase in profits
- Concerns were at an elevated level relating to finding and retaining suitable staff and adequacy of premises. For the first time, parking was noted as an area of concern.
- Burn out and the perceived increase in red tape are also strong demotivators with a number of respondents considering closing their businesses down.
